Mesterolone has an androgenic effect. In medicine, it is used in therapies whose symptoms indicate androgen deficiency, e.g. impotence. Proviron does not stimulate the body to produce its own testosterone, but only replaces the missing androgens.
It does not aromatize, does not inhibit the secretion of gonadotropins, does not inhibit spermatogenesis, has no anabolic properties, so no muscle growth should be expected.
In bodybuilding, it is mainly used as an anti-estrogen which prevents aromatization into estrogen. Unlike Nolvadex (which only prevents estrogen from binding to receptors), Proviron prevents the formation of estrogen by blocking aromatase enzymes.
It results in minimizing water retention, reduces the risk of gynecomastia and fat deposition, and has the ability to bind SHBG protein. It is also often used in the withdrawal phase of anabolics to counter the decline of androgen levels. In addition, it improves the density, hardness and appearance of the muscles.
The tablets are not 17-alpha-alkylated and therefore pose no risk to the liver, even with prolonged use. Possible side effects include: acne, oily skin, hirsutism and increased erection.
